Oil Rig on Firth of Tay 2011

Oil Rig on the Firth of Tay 2011

The Rowan Stavanger Oil Rig in the Port of Dundee in 2011 – the rig is now back in Dundee, along with two other Rowan rigs. The reason for this is because of the present downturn in North Sea Oil Exploration, it’s far cheaper to keep the rigs on inshore waters (and pay harbour fees & duties), than to leave them exposed to the rigours of North Sea storms. This is good for a city like Dundee, because that any repairs needing to be done will be done by local firms.
