This is a photo I took on a winters evening inΒ 2016 atΒ the bottom of West Bow, from the Grassmarket, in Edinburgh. Below is the black & white version of the same image.
WHICH PHOTO DO YOU PREFER?
West Bow, Edinburgh at Night – Black & White Version
Thanks Millie, personally I prefer the B/W version, but I know, from Facebook, that lots of people prefer the colour one. BTW, hows Sons of Kings books going?
I would tend to agree with you Candace, it’s a beautiful city π
I’m trying to work out from your blog, from which part of the world you live in, I’m guessing the USA, but you’ve certainly been to many different countries π
Thanks Candace π You certainly live in a wonderful part of the USA, there’s some amazing geology in your neck of the woods! And you certainly have been bitten by the wanderlust bug, which is far nicer than being bitten by the infamous Scottish Midgie bugs! Lol! π
Sorry I’ve taken so long to reply Candace, I’ve had a horrible cough/cold/tonsilitis, but feeling better now π
Colorado definitely sounds like the place to live, I hadn’t realised that the East coast of the US suffers from midges too, thankfully Fife seems like Colorado in that respect, it’s fairly midge free during the summer π
Sorry you have been under the weather . I am suffering from seasonal allergies myself. I love spring, i dont think the feeling is mutual. πwhile i was in Scotland it reminded me very much of Colorado. Perhaps one reason i liked the area so much
Looks like a great part of the city. I do like the warmth of the coloured photo… Black and white is always a good choice for buildings, I love the stark lines.. But my choice is for the warm glow, it looks so inviting. Great photos, in both versions.
Thanks Maggie, I value your input π You’re right about buildings being particularly good in B&W, it’s my preferred medium. But I know a lot of people feel the same way as you with this particular photo π
Thanks Jo π I’ve seen plenty of your photos, which are easily as good as anything I can do!!!
Hope you had good weather and a good time back in September π
Flatterer! π π Thank you. It was glorious weather, unlike my usual experience of Scotland. And I was lucky enough to meet up with Jude from The earth laughs in flowers for a trip to the botanic gardens.
Both photos are excellent and I can’t decide which version I like best. I usually go for b/w but I really like the coloured one here, too.

Colorado has few bugs, now the east coast of the US has midgie bugs like Scotland, so am familiar with them.π

Colorado has some wonderful scenery and the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Out of all the places I’ve lived, I like it the best so far.

The BW version gives a bit of a retro feel, but both are gorgeous
