Possibly Xanthoria parietina (the yellow lichen) on a rowan tree trunk, on the Formonthills at the back of Glenrothes. I was amazed to read that lichens are estimated to cover over 6% of the earths surface!!

They are fascinating plants, I wish I knew more than just the basics about them. I read an excellent post a few years ago, about a local naturalists frustrations with trying to identify them, well worth the read!! It’s hilarious!
